Her father Brian was a veterinarian for horses who committed suicide at the age of three. Bea was three years old. She did not know the cause of his death until she reached the age of thirteen. In honor of her father, she chose the stage-name Bea and, in the year 2017, wrote an article about suicides that affected her family for The Guardian. Bea (and her younger sister Sinead) were raised in the same home as Helen Moloney, a educator and jockey trainer who was a professional jockey. The family was horse and race meeting obsessed.
